1. To access Dead Kings you must have the latest patch update installed.

You pick up the lantern during the first main story mission whilst underground in the caves and tunnels. You're also introduced to the new oil pots, which become selectable whenever your lamp requires a refill.
Here, the lantern stays lit and hangs on Arno's belt whenever needed and you should have no problem solving the puzzles that immediately require its use.

The action to use the lantern is already used in the game (to reload your pistol or rifle) so this double use can be confusing. However, you only need to press and hold the required button for a couple of seconds and your lamp will return.
